4 Tips To Help You Plan Your Session Wardrobe | Rapid City, SD photographer | Jennifer Norrick Photography

Hi peeps!

Can you believe it’s almost fall?  I’m so excited I can hardly contain myself! It’s my most favorite season of the year.  I get to bust out the boots and hoodies, maybe a beanie and a scarf; hit Starbucks for that pumpkin spice latte and best of all:  capture some fabulous colors for all the fabulous families I have had the privilege to work with or the new peeps I get to meet!

Every year I get asked:  What are we supposed to wear?  So, I thought now would be a good time to put a few good tips out there to give peeps a hand to prep for their fall session!  Now, these tips are just the way I like to layer and texturize clothing for my shoots.  You are in now way obligated to follow them to a “t.”  But, maybe this is a good starting point when trying to choose a top or a skirt???  So, I have 5 tips to give you a place to start!

  1. Stick to a palette of right around 2-3 colors. I always like to have Mom pick something out to wear first.  Whether it has a pattern or is a solid color, Mom gets to pick first.  I personally like flowy long dresses or gowns, lace or floral, that we can add some movement to your images with. But, a really cute pair of jeans and boots is definitely also a fave of mine! For fall, colors like dark purples, khaki, mustard, or olive are beautiful!
  2. Next, start choosing pieces that pull the colors out of the piece of clothing Mom picked out.  For example if she chose a dress that has flowers on it with mustard and/or rust colors and little olive mixed in, put dad in a pair of khaki pants and an olive top. Find ways to utilize all the colors you chose.
  3. Now, once you’ve got clothing pieces picked out, find some accessories!!!!!  Perhaps a hat for mom and a lace shawl, a cardigan and a big chunky fun necklace if the family has a little girl.  If a little boy, suspenders, or a fun vest.  Scarves are fabulous!!!!  Adding these accessories helps add some layers and texture to your pictures!
  4. Shoes!  Don’t forget to find some cute shoes to go with those outfits.  Little ankle boots for the littles,  Riding style boots for mom, etc. Whatever is comfortable for dad?

Take a quick peek at some of my favorite images from sessions past to get an idea and a jumping off point of how to layer some clothing pieces for the perfect outfit for your crew!

Just a few pix out of so many!!!!  I am booking for fall now!!  Don’t forget to reserve your date as I have limited availability.  The colors will be gone in the blink of an eye, sadly! Reach out if you’re needing to book through the button below!  I can’t wait to work with you!!!
